Installation & Maintenance
Technical reference for installers and professionals
At ADEX USA, we are committed to delivering ceramic and porcelain tiles that combine aesthetic excellence with technical performance. To ensure every installation achieves the quality and durability our products are known for, it is essential to follow proper installation and maintenance procedures.
This guide has been created as a practical reference for architects, contractors, and installers. It covers every key aspect of the installation process—from surface preparation to grout selection, sealing recommendations, and long-term maintenance—based on the standards established by the Tile Council of North America (TCNA) and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
Whether working with crackled glazes, glossy finishes, or high-performance porcelain, following these professional guidelines will help achieve optimal and lasting results. You can also download the full PDF guide at the bottom of this page.
Working with ADEX USA tiles Guide
1. Preparing for Installation
All surfaces must be clean, level, and structurally sound prior to installation. A dry layout is highly recommended to visualize the final composition, adjust for color and size variations, and confirm tile positioning. This step is especially important for multi-tone and handcrafted glazes. All installations should be performed by qualified professionals and follow TCNA and ANSI guidelines.
2. Choosing the Right Setting Materials
Only use high-quality adhesives designed for ceramic applications. Traditional mortars do not does not ensure good adhesion.
3. Grouting Considerations
Unsanded grout is typically used for grout joints 1/8” or smaller. Sanded grout is recommended for grout joints larger than 1/8”, ensuring excess is wiped away immediately with a damp sponge. For Porcelain tiles, we recommend using a minimum of 5/64-inch (0.08” or 2mm) spacers for a perfect alignment of the tiles.
Dark or contrasting grout colors should be avoided on crackled glazes and satin finishes to prevent potential staining and grout haze.
4. Sealing Crackled Glaze Tiles
Sealing is mandatory for Crackle Glazes. We recommend sealing our crackled glaze tiles with a solvent based penetrating sealer before and after grouting. We recommend using FILA MP90 – Natural Look Penetrating Sealer. The sealer penetrates the fine, hairline fissures in the glaze and prevents dirt and dust darkening the crackle over a period of time.
• Sealing the crackled glaze makes it easier to maintain and clean.
• Proper application of the sealer (wipe off any excess from glazed surface) will
not harm or change the appearance of the tile.
• Reapply to grout joints and crackle glazes periodically as needed. When water no longer beads on the surface of the joints, resealing is required.
5. Cleaning and Maintenance
To maintain the beauty and performance of ADEX USA tiles, clean regularly using a PH neutral, non-acidic/non-abrasive cleaner. FILA CLEANER – Neutral Cleaner is recommended. Avoid using metal tools, waxes, or aggressive chemicals.

6. Important Considerations
Due to natural variation in ceramic and porcelain production, slight differences in color, shading, texture, and finish may occur. These characteristics are inherent to the product and should be expected. Use of the tile constitutes acceptance. We assume no responsibility for installation. The installation information provided
is to be used as a guideline only and should be discussed with a professional and accredited tile installer.
